Oliver Yorke – Digital Native / Lose Yourself [RTS003]

oliver_yorke_retrospective_recEach single hints proudly at Oliver Yorke’s classically trained genius, with darkly orchestrated basslines picking at your senses with menacing intent. He’s a producer originally from West London, and his background oozes through each record, with the same allure as any drum and bass track of the same calibre. Don’t expect euphoric vocal samples or stifling synth layered breaks. Instead you’re introduced to the subgenre underworld which has ruled the capital city since its first appearance.

The eight years which Yorke has taken to fine tune his production skills are quite obvious in this next release. ‘Digital Native’ opens with an almost overwhelming concoction of layers, each one building to a crescendo which pushes you fast forward into a relentless tempo. It’s difficult not to be overcome by such a carefully manipulated placement of sounds.

Phace – Vitreous EP – NSGNLEP003

phace_vitreous_epYou heard that right; Phace is back on a solo tip and presents a razor sharp and absolutely fresh 4-Track EP entitled VITREOUS.

The German electronic virtuoso puts all rumours to bed claiming he might disappear after unleashing his collaborative non-Drum & Bass Neosignal band project a little earlier this year… Au contraire! Phace is all wrapped up in doing what he loves most; writing uncompromising music!

The theme of the EP is inspired by the omnipresent glass human being our era and society is characterized by. And each track featured on this release shines bright like glass as well. As usual we prefer to leave more detailed track by track judging to the listener!

Total Science – See Your Face EP

Bass legends Total Science step up with their debut EP for Shogun Audio and as you’d expect from two of the most experienced producers in the game today, it’s a fully fledged masterpiece.

The summer sunshine opening title track ‘See Your Face’ is a sparkling, laid back groove featuring their longtime collaborator Riya who drops her typically lush vocals over some crisp TS breaks and bass. ‘Hush Ya Mouth’ is the exact polar opposite opening with harsh, abrasive breaks and sinister loops before a drop into a heinous drum & bass workout that’ll have you reaching for the rafters.

Moving on and ‘Just Want You’ keeps things grizzly. Retaining a very old-skool vibe the ‘just want you’ vocal paves the way as we fall smack into a full-on marching track with proper drums and a twisted b-line that wraps around your ears and doesn’t let go.
